IoT + Agriculture: Sensing, Autonomy, and Resilience
February 18, 20265 min readBy Team Obimbo Labs

We prototype solar-powered edge nodes that measure soil moisture, leaf health, and local weather, pushing only events to the cloud via LoRa. Lightweight models run on-device to keep bandwidth low and privacy high.
Coupled with agentic responders, farmers get WhatsApp alerts for irrigation, pest risk, and market prices. Partnerships with local co-ops help us tune pricing signals and harvest planning so the advice is actionable, not academic.
Early results show fewer false alarms and quicker irrigation cycles, especially when we blend satellite weather with ground sensors. Next steps include adding affordable machine-vision pods for crop disease detection and automating spare-part logistics for pumps and drips.
